Reception, Saturday August 3rd, 6-9pm
Exeter features the work of four promising painters who were awarded the Four Pillars artist residency from Mount Gretna School of Art in summer 2018. The artists, Seth Becker, Jamie Bowman, Elizabeth Larson Koehler, and Blake Walinder hail from around the country; Brooklyn, NY, Boston, MA, Seattle, WA, and Tulsa, OK. On view are various subjects and painting approaches rooted in working from perception.
Four Pillars artist residency
Named after the “Four Pillars” of Chautauqua, this month-long artist residency provides opportunities for artists to advance their work and connect with new audiences.
While the residency is open to all working artists, a special purpose of the residency is to give Mount Gretna School of Art alumni a chance to reconnect with Mount Gretna long after they are students.
Mount Gretna School of Art
A residential summer art program for talented and motivated students in harmony with nature and the community, led by an all-star lineup of faculty, critics, and lecturers. We attract college through graduate-level students with a special interest in painting outside in the landscape from direct perception while living in the area’s iconic summer cottages. Students live, eat, and breathe art all day, every day.
Mount Gretna School of Art (MGSoA) was launched in 2013 to be a top-tier residential summer art program focused on painting outside directly from observation. From day one, the generosity of our supporters has allowed us to proudly provide need- and merit-based scholarships, attracting students from a variety of backgrounds each year. Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania, home to Chautauqua community traditions in support of art and education, has welcomed and collaborated with MGSoA to bring new experiences and cultural enrichment through public artist lectures and art classes.
