The Maryland State Arts Council’s Independent Artist Awards (IAAs) recognize achievements by Maryland artists working independently of an institution or organization. The awards are accompanied by grants that encourage artistic growth and sustained practice.
New this year!
  • Individuals and independent collaborative groups may apply.
  • Artistic categories have been updated to three primary categories, rotating on a three-year cycle. (See below for how the new categories align with previous years’ categories.)
  • Performing (accepting applications now for 2020 awards)
  • Visual/Media (2021 awards)
  • Literary (2022 awards)
  • Applicants will be considered for three levels of award:
  • $2,000 Regional Awards
  • $10,000 Regional Awards
  • $15,000 State Awards
  • Collaborative work samples will be accepted.
The deadline for FY20 applications is
Friday, November 15, 2019 at 5 p.m.
