The Maryland State Arts Council has committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion in grantmaking, and therefore our funding mechanisms continue to be examined and updated. We are aided by the work of the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies, and Americans for the Arts, as they have clarified and shared approaches to uncover cultural bias in the procedures and policies of state arts organizations. MSAC’s intention is to assemble diverse groups of judges with experience in poetry recitation whether or not they have history with MSAC’s programs.
