Originally constructed in 1890, the Wyoming State Capitol building was closed to the public in 2016 and is currently undergoing a largescale renovation (Capitol Square Project) that is slated for completion in spring of 2019. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as a National Historic Landmark.

The central rotunda of the Capitol contains four niches on the third level that are visible from all levels of the rotunda. The State of Wyoming is seeking four human figure based, cast bronze or carved stone sculptures for the niches that are allegorical and based on Wyoming attributes and values.
