Open Call deadline postponed

For the third edition of Rotterdam Photo the organization invites independent practitioners, art students and publishers and other photography organizations to showcase their work to a broad audience. Rotterdam Photo rises in the form of a container village at Deliplein, Rotterdam during the Art Rotterdam Week from 8 – 11 February 2018. The selected photographers get the opportunity to showcase their work alongside our curated exhibitions and an elaborate fringe programme. Together, Rotterdam Photo presents a contemporary view on photography in context of the theme FAKE | TRUTH. Photographers can submit their work until the postponed deadline 14 December 2017.

During Art Rotterdam Week, Rotterdam Photo offers a variety of presentations at a container village at Deliplein that includes presentations of independent photographers, photo collectives and organizations. At the central square of Katendrecht we connect these photographers to a broad audience, offering an eclectic mix of visual culture manifestations: from photography exhibitions, screen presentations, video works and analog practices. In 2017, more than 5.000 people visited Rotterdam Photo.

Application and selection

If you want to join our growing community, please submit a selection of your images inspired by the theme FAKE | TRUTH before 14 December 2017 at www.rotterdamphotofestival.com. Our committee will make a selection of participating photographers and invite them to showcase their work at Rotterdam Photo. If you are selected, a container will be designated to you against a non-profit fee. By doing so we want to give the independent photography community an opportunity to exhibit during the hustle and bustle of the Art Rotterdam Week. As a small independent organization that consists of passionate photography freelancers, we want to create a platform that caters to a wide spectrum of photographers.

Theme 2018: FAKE | TRUTH

Rotterdam Photo’s theme of the year 2018 is FAKE | TRUTH. We invite our applicants to present their images within the context of our theme. Whether you consider yourself an image-maker that exclusively focuses on representing the truth or someone that manipulates and challenges what we perceive as real, we invite any artist that works in the realm of visual culture to apply for the upcoming edition of the festival. We welcome manifold interpretations and opinions that express all the different shades of grey that exist between photographic truth and reality.

Rotterdam Photo Talks

On Saturday 10 February 2018 Rotterdam Photo will host an evening for photo enthusiasts and professionals, looking for perspectives that shed a new light on our contemporary image society: Rotterdam Photo Talks. Whether the topics are trending, underexposed, or highly debated the program will investigate various aspects of visual culture and the role of photography in it, through keynotes, Q&A’s and presentations. Rotterdam Photo is moderated by Frits Gierstberg, curator of the Nederlands Fotomuseum and progammed together with Photo Talks coordinator Lise Straatsma and Rotterdam Photo curator Pieter Wisse.
