I Feel Your Opposition in This Light
We want a form of compassion that crushes dominant systems of oppression! We need empathy! We need to support one-another! There are many ways to resist bigotry, fight ignorance, protest hate, and demand justice. Where or what is the role for compassion, empathy, and understanding in social activism?
It is with these ideas in mind that Lease Agreement invites the submission of video works for the program, I Feel Your Opposition in This Light. The public screening will be held at the AND Gallery, in Jackson, Mississippi, on April 14, 2017 in conjunction with the exhibition March Forth. March Forth is an interdisciplinary art exhibition of works that ask us to closely examine and organize around the turmoil of current sociopolitical events.
Lease Agreement is an artist-run nomadic curatorial project directed by Adam Farcus. AND Gallery is an independent, artist-run space for contemporary and emerging art. AND is interested in the accessibility of new and emerging art, facilitating creative experimentation and discussion, and supporting emerging artists.
This is a national and international call for submissions from artists who are 18 or older. Submissions are open to the public and free. Videos should be under 30 minutes in length. Each artist or group can submit up to 5 works. Submissions may be full videos or excerpts. Works will be submitted via video hosting sites such as Youtube or Vimeo, personal websites, or gallery sites. Hard copies will not be reviewed. We unfortunately cannot accommodate film submissions at this time.
Deadline for submission is Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at 11:59pm CST.
