People have been photographing the beauty of the Mohawk Trail as long as there have been cameras.

To help celebrate the Trail’s 100th Anniversary as the nation’s first scenic highway, base camp photo is reviving the tradition of a juried exhibition of photographs taken along the Mohawk Trail. The first of these was held back in 1953! It’s an exciting way to be part of the celebration, show off your skills as a photographer and help document the history of the trail for future generations.

The photos can be taken anywhere along the side of the road to highlight the natural beauty and great views, and must have been taken in 2013-14. The subject matter within the photograph is open – you may include people, signs, close ups, landscapes, portraits but the photos MUST have been taken along the side of the road of the Mohawk Trail!

The entries will be judged and the top winners will be exhibited at base camp photo’s gallery in Greenfield as well as being highlighted on the Mohawk Trail website and the websites of several business associations who represent the regions along the Trail:

northquabbinwoods.org; explorenorthadams.com; shelburnefalls.com; and williamstownchamber.com.

All non-winning entries will also be able to be seen on the websites, but not featured, alongside some archival pictures from days gone by.

There will be two categories:

1) Youth: 16 and under             2) The rest of us

The fine print:

All images must include the location (exact as possible) of where it was shot. Images selected for exhibit must be framed and ready to hang. Canvas prints are accepted.

·  All submitted photos must have been taken by the photographer making the entry. If you are a parent or legal guardian submitting for a minor, please make it clear and whom you are actually submitting for.

·  All submissions must be made by via the online jury system. The link will be posted at www.basecampphoto.com and all other participating sites.

Online submissions should be as large as possible but no larger than 1280 pixels on the longest side, type jpg – set to the highest quality.

Fee: 2 images for $19.14 and 4 images for $30

·  Images must be received by midnight EST on the submission closing date.

·  Payment must be received by the close of submissions to be including in jury process.

Rights:

Photographers retain all rights to their work, but submissions accepted for exhibition: artists grant base camp photo and The Mohawk Trail Association the right to use their images to promote the exhibition and for display on Gallery website and for inclusion in an exhibit catalog.

Sales:

For submissions that are selected, photographers may offer their work for sale and establish their own price for framed and unframed prints. Sales will be directly made through the artist.

Selection Process

Once submissions for an exhibit close, all entries are submitted to the Jurors for that exhibit anonymously. The jurors will not know the name of the photographer or if two photos were taken by the same photographer. Jurors are charged with selecting about 50 (25 youth and 25 adult) entries for display at base camp photo. Jurors have sole discretion as to their selections.

Date of Exhibit: January 11- February 28, 2015

Submission Dates: October 22 – December 20, 2014

Opening reception: Sunday, January 11, 12-4 refreshments and fun. Free and open to the public!
