30 Creative Minds Under 30
Wednesday, November 20, 2013 | 6:00 PM
Maryland Art Place

THIRTY is a series of monthly talks featuring thirty emerging Baltimore artists under the age of thirty. All of the participants use a diverse range of creative practices, from visual art to performance, curatorial, community art, design, film, photography and technology to create visual experiences. MAP’s upcoming THIRTY event will feature the following speakers:

Nick Clifford Simko is a visual artist interested in visual culture of the past and its relevance to contemporary life. He uses photography as a medium because of its capacity to relate to themes of transience, memory, and collecting. He completed his BFA in 2012 in Art History, Theory, and Criticism with a Concentration in Curatorial Studies from Maryland Institute College of Art.

Elle Perez is originally from the Bronx, New York. She completed her Bachelor’s of Art in Photography in May 2011 from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), in Baltimore, Maryland. When she is not making art she likes traveling, looking at art, thinking about art, talking about art, meeting new people, taking road trips, camping, and taking bike rides to the beach.

Joshua Wade Smith finished his MFA in 2010 from Maryland Institute College of Art (Mt Royal). In 2006 he earned his BFA from Texas State University-San Marcos. He creates installations and performances prominently incorporating his own body, but is more concerned with his body’s use as an workable tool within a stylized system of production.

Surface Treatment: Seth Adelsberger at Springsteen Gallery
Opening Reception: Friday, November 22 7-10 pm

“Now we are at a second watershed. This time the loss of innocence is intellectual rather than mechanical. But again there are people who are trying to pretend that it has not taken place. Enormous resistance to the idea of systematic processes of design is coming from people who recognize correctly the importance of intuition, but then make a fetish of it which excludes the possibility of asking reasonable questions.” – Notes on the Synthesis of Form

Springsteen is pleased to present Surface Treatment, a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by Seth Adelsberger. Please join us for the opening reception Friday, November 22, from 7 – 10 pm.
