Ai Weiwei watching his own video.

Chances are you’ve already seen this video, tweeted by the artist himself. Ai Weiwei can’t seem to stay out of the headlines these days, in light of his massive retrospective at the Hirshhorn and his notable absence from the exhibit. The Chinese government revoked the artist’s passport to travel and has repeatedly shut down his twitter account, but there seems to be no way to keep him out of the media. In the escalating pissing contest between Weiwei and the Chinese government, the ubiquity of this video is further proof of the artist’s ability to slyly and effectively flaunt the rules. Chalk up another big win for Weiwei.  – Cara Ober
